There are a variety of different greys in the COLORSTEEL® range, from the deep blue-grey tones of Windsor Grey to the pale, feather-light Gull Grey, and the classical richness of Grey Friars. Choosing the right shade for your project comes down to architectural style, location and landscaping, and the level of boldness you are comfortable with in terms of colour matching.

Light Greys

Pale greys tend to speak to a contemporary style of architecture but can also take on a classic, traditional look. As its name suggests, breezy Gull Grey looks at home near the sea. Being a very pale shade of grey, it is flexible enough to be used as a neutral cladding or can be juxtaposed against rich, coastal shades such as deep greens, reds and blues.

Sandstone Grey is darker than Gull Grey but still on the light end of the grey spectrum. Created to echo the rich, pale grey of seashore boulders, this agile tone works beautifully with native landscaping and can be dressed to take on a contemporary look when popped against brightly coloured detailing, or made to blend into the landscape with neutral colours complementing it.

Mid Greys

Middle-tone, rich greys look at home on both contemporary and classic homes and can be great in alpine or rural settings, juxtaposed with schist walls or timber cladding elements.

Grey Friars is a warm mid grey that suits villas or bungalows and can be dressed with neutrals or understated tones for a dependable, classic look. Thunder Grey can be taken in a similar direction but also pops against bright shades, making it an optimal choice for the cladding and roofing of contemporary buildings or the modernising of older homes.

TidalDrift® Matte takes the understated look of mid greys in a contemporary direction. With a touch of brown in its depths, the soft matte finish transports this smoky grey tone into an era of bold architectural designs.

Dark Greys

Very dark greys can be used as an alternative to black, with a little more warmth and depth. Based on the traditional roofing material, Slate is a deep grey that is close to black. Completely timeless, it has a complementary palette of warm tones, either rich neutrals or nature-derived dark reds and oceanic blues.

Windsor Grey is a low-gloss dark grey with an inkling of blue in its mix. With an echo of regality, this colour is a safe bet for any style of architecture but is often used on contemporary buildings for cladding and roofing, in place of a true black. It looks great juxtaposed against pale blues or offset with maroon shades.
