The beauty of COLORSTEEL® is that it is virtually maintenance free. Made for New Zealand conditions, and made to last, it is designed to take everything the weather can throw at it.
For the most part, maintenance will come down to just an occasional wash with the hose to help extend its life. This is because most of your roof or cladding will be exposed to the rain so it will basically take care of itself, with the rain washing away any dirt or build-up, leaving it looking as good as new.
For areas that aren’t exposed to the rain – for instance, under the eaves and the underside of gutters, we recommend manual washing with either water and a sponge/brush or a water blaster (at pressures less than 20MPa) every six months, subject to your location. This straightforward maintenance will enhance the life and attractiveness for years to come.
For specific details on areas not normally washed by rain that will need particular attention, check out our Caring for COLORSTEEL® page.
Keep an eye out on anything that is causing, or could potentially cause any damage. It's normally the case that sorting it sooner rather than later will save you time and money overall. Common things to look out for include branches or plants falling or rubbing against your COLORSTEEL®, particularly after harsh weather. Pruning or clearing offending items will help prevent the risk of cosmetic damage.
Gutters are at risk of getting clogged with leaves and other debris, so keeping an eye on them and being proactive when it comes to clearing them out is a good idea. Clearing them out every 3 months or so helps to ensure rainwater can flow freely through them. This keeps them functioning smoothly, reducing the likelihood of leaks or other long-term damage.
All genuine COLORSTEEL® products are covered by extensive warranties. Heeding the above maintenance advice will help extend the life of your roof or cladding and will ensure you’ll be able to call on your warranty if ever needed. Click here to learn more about our warranties.
